F/Actory
F/Actory was a “liveable cultural facility” that operated in Kagurazaka, Tokyo, from February 2018 to July 2022. Initiated by tsu-tsu, it functioned simultaneously as a shared house, exhibition space, and site of exchange for young artists. A two-story private house was independently renovated and self-managed, hosting a range of programs designed to help artists sustain their practices outside institutional frameworks.
These included: “Saturday Night Market,” a regular market for small-scale works offering an alternative to the gallery exhibition-and-sales model; “Genreless Fight Club,” a mutual critique session open to anyone, providing access to rigorous feedback without requiring affiliation with an art school; open studio events; and “Parley Tax Return,” a shared information network — still active as a group chat with over 230 members — where artists exchange practical knowledge on financial independence, from tax filing to grant applications.
