A freestanding wardrobe contains a live camera feed connected to the artist-run spaces that tsu-tsu operates in Tokyo (F/Actory) and at Lake Kawaguchi (6okken) — places where artists live, work, and share domestic life.

At the moment a viewer encounters the work, something unremarkable may be happening in those spaces: a conversation, a disagreement, a meal, silence. The feed offers no spectacle — only the ongoing fact of cohabitation.

The work responds to a condition tsu-tsu observes in contemporary life: a widespread retreat into isolation, occurring simultaneously with a desire to return to shared forms of living. These impulses coexist, unresolved. Rather than forcing proximity, tsu-tsu and his collaborators have tried to construct what they call an “appropriate distance” — a spatial and relational arrangement in which people remain autonomous while staying within reach of one another.

This work invites the viewer into that experiment in distance: to look through a wardrobe door into someone else’s domestic reality, and to consider what closeness might mean when it is chosen rather than assumed.
